第六十屆司法節致詞 翁院長、諸位大法官、諸位司法首長、諸位貴賓: 今天是第六十屆司法節,司法院改變以往均以集會慶祝司法節的傳統方式,於中正紀念堂舉辦百年司法活動,展覽司法文物暨司法美展,一方面藉由歷史文物史料及法界前輩口述歷史的時光隧道,讓參觀民眾認識台灣司法的變遷,緬懷司法前輩們的風範並見證司法薪火的傳承。另一方面藉由展出司法同仁的藝術作品,讓參觀民眾了解法律人積極的人生態度與豁達的視野,充分展現司法改革永遠追求創意與革新的精神,實在值得肯定與讚賞。誠蒙翁院長邀請前來參加開幕儀式,深感榮幸,謹代表全國律師公會祝賀此項百年司法活動。 台南地方法院舊址,是台灣現存日治時代早期唯一的法院大型建築,有全台日治時代最精緻的門廊‧最華麗的門廳及最莊嚴的圓頂,圓頂內部的特殊木料,在台灣找不到任何相同的例子,內政部指定為二級古蹟,並經司法院規劃為司法博物館預定地,實在名符其實。回憶三十四年前我很榮幸在台南地方法院擔任法官,可惜兩年半後因個人生涯規劃毅然辭職轉任律師,如果時光可以倒流,我真不知道是否會做同樣的決擇。 最後,敬祝百年司法活動圓滿成功,諸位貴賓健康快樂。

金婚紀念日的告白 2015.11.28 親愛的老婆: 欣逢我們金婚紀念日,原想應該隆重慶祝,藉以稍為彌補當初妳委屈嫁給我的寒酸婚禮!回憶當初蘇家沒有經濟能力為妳舉辦風光婚禮,現在我雖有經濟能力為妳舉辦世紀排場的金婚紀念,但是因為我深深知道金婚紀念對妳而言,已經毫無意義,甚至我想送給妳一份稍為貴重禮物,都被妳堅決婉拒,真是為時已晚,情何以堪! 民國62年我基於生涯規劃,辭去法官職務轉任律師。7年後因為響往美國的教育環境,懇請妳辭去教職前往美國擔任義務台傭照顧3個孩子10年,讓3個孩子都能完成美國名列前10名大學的學業。現在3個孩子已經成家立業,各擁有令人羨慕的謀生工作,但這些成就畢竟是妳為蘇家所付出犧牲奉獻的痛苦代價!誠如妳經常怨嘆:「我被迫辭去教師職位,含淚帶著三個小孩去美國唸書, 並留在美國照顧他們. 如今孩子大了, 各有自己的天下, 我卻失去了人人羨慕的18%退休金, 如今想起, 後悔莫及, 如果人生能夠重來, 打死不幹, 雖然我現在過著還可以的生活, 但覺得一生最大的遺憾莫過於此.」。尤其101年1月14日總統選舉當天,因為我開車打瞌睡所造成的車禍浩劫,雖然我們很幸運還能從鬼門關走回來,但是妳由於這次車禍所失去的健康,迄今仍然無法回復,而始終耿耿於懷,真是令我自覺罪孽深重! 50年來的人生舞台,在蘇家的心目中,妳絕對是一位成功的老婆與母親,蘇家實在虧欠妳太多,妳常說「沒有功勞,也有苦勞」,實在太謙虛了!但是在妳的心目中,我卻是一位失敗的老公與父親,實在名符其實!每次看到孟宗與孟斌如何盡心盡力陪同孩子成長的照片,真是讓我感到羞愧萬分!ARTHER 好幾次想推薦我參加高雄市模範父親選拔,都被我婉拒,因為我尚有自知之明! 夫妻吵架,無論誰是誰非,「太太永遠沒有錯」。50年的婚姻生活,由於我的火爆脾氣,導致我們有數不盡的爭吵與冷戰,每次爭吵對妳而言,又是傷心往事的再次湧現,不堪回味,非常感謝妳的包容與諒解,否則我們早已緣盡各奔前程! 雖然妳偶而會表達你的心聲與無奈:「嫁給妳是錯誤的選擇」,但是你別忘了我們是經過漫長7年的愛情長跑,始決定共同永浴愛河,怎麼能夠輕言悔不當初?。俗語說:「百年修得同船渡,千年修得共枕眠。」難道我們不該珍惜此輩子的姻緣嗎?我們無法預測還有多少晚年餘生,千言萬語,盡在不言中,讓我誠心回饋妳對蘇家犧牲奉獻於萬一,陪妳共同走完人生的最後旅程。 永遠愛你的老公
孟宗: 爸媽非常感謝你們全家南下高雄將近一個星期,所給予三代同堂的天倫之樂!其實,為享受難得的天倫之樂,八月二十三日及二十四日兩天前往台北參加修法會議都藉故請假;事務所工作也幾乎休假。但是昨晚在夢時代親眼目睹你不當體罰奕昌事件,頓時感到非常心痛,情不自禁掉下幾顆眼淚。昨晚爸爸立即自我反省: 也許爸爸以前曾經不當體罰你們三兄弟,造成現在你報復在孫子身上。果係如此,那麼爸爸實在太對不起奕昌了。爸爸寧願相信這事件僅是你情緒失控的無心之過。 如果時光可以倒流,我將要採取下列方法管教孩子: 永遠放棄體罰!如果孩子在父母面前犯錯,儘量不要當場立即處理,以避免情緒失控的無心之過。最佳方式為事後與孩子溝通。讓孩童知道犯錯之原因何在,如有處罰之必要,儘量鼓勵孩子自行處罰。  奕昌與奕承都是聰明又可愛的孩子,爸媽相信奕昌已有相互溝通的能力,培養孩子與父母相互溝通的能力,也是訓練孩子建立良本好人際關係的基礎。 再次聲明爸媽無權干涉你管教孩子,祇想讓你知道爸媽的心聲而已。 「父母的態度決定孩子的高度」這是一本值得為人父母應該閱讀的好書。 非常感謝你為爸爸購買最新型筆記型電腦及其他設備。 爸爸

親愛的家人們, 接手新工作已進入第三週了. 這新工作中有許多事情是我在踏入社會工作了十七年都沒有經歷過的, 也因此我還在調適學習當中. 在我走馬上任的第一個星期裡, 我就開始體驗了所謂的便當文化, 跟政府機關與我自己的單位有開不完的會議, 也因此這一週來我吃到的便當總數超過了這一年來的數量. 在第二週, 我體驗到政府所編列的預算有多可觀, 即使我自己的單位是個非營利機構~ 我可以選擇拿折舊津貼開我自己的車, 這津貼相當於一個社會新鮮人的月薪, 以及可觀的油錢補貼 (這優沃的補貼讓我超想捨95汽油改加98的!), 我也可以選擇開他們那一年新的公務車, 如此一來我也就不用負擔車子保險或維修費用! 但其實不論我選擇哪一個, 我其實都沒什麼機會自己開車, 因為只要我要外出開會, 單位都一定會租有車子/司機接送~ 我一開始是選擇了開自己的車拿津貼, 不過現在我打算改選第二選項, 既省麻煩也省錢! 上任後單位有來詢問我想使用哪一款手提電腦, 由於單位並沒有什麼針對選用電腦品牌的特定規章, 我便要了一台SONY製的, 他們給我的還是此品牌的頂級款! 接下來他們又問我想要什麼樣的手機, 一開始我覺得我的第一代iPhone已經夠用所以回絕了, 不過我們電子工程部的人來問我為什麼我不用傳輸速度更快的3G iPhone, 反正單位也是准許的! 因此, 我在今天拿到了我的新手機 (舊的那款我就請惠娟代用囉…) 然後在今天我發現了我那間比我舊家還大的宿舍的租金是單位以”工程計劃”的名義所支付, 這還包括了裡頭的電話帳單與電視/電影節目隨選功能的費用 現在來到了上任後的第三個禮拜, 我幾乎是為了眾多的會議而天天台北新竹來回跑~ 也因此讓我覺得要決定住在新竹或台北實在是一個不太容易的事, 因為不論住在哪一個城市都似乎沒法為我節省太多舟車勞頓時間… 雖說這許許多多的會議都有一堆的智囊團參與, 但似乎都不常能馬上有決議. 我對於會議裡所討論的議題所涉及的重要性也深感驚悸! 我第一個與政府單位開會的主題是要討論如何幫日益萎頓的台灣服務業振興轉型~ 第二場會議則是為了要尋求解決台灣愈來愈高的失業率. 第三場是研討如何幫助SME產業. 其實這些議題在不久之前都還是我拿來評論檢視政府的議題, 而今我的角色不一樣了, 我得要跟政府站在同一陣線一起打拼. 另外, 我得要儘快決定如何把一大筆(想都想不到的大數目) 在今年提撥給我們的預算在年底前消化掉, 否則這筆預算就得歸還給政府, 而這是會讓那些編列預算的人被責怪沒能精準一些的… 說了這麼多, 我只是想跟你們分享, 這工作是我在離開上一個工作的前三天確定拿到的. 在這之前我持續不斷地向上帝禱告, 也深信神會帶領我. 等待確實是漫長的, 也累了身邊關心我的人比我還焦慮我的未來… 不過這也因此是一個很好的見證, 神像是關上了幾扇門來測試我對祂的信心! 當工研院為我的接任舉行記者會, 很多人都因此或打電話或寫電子信件給我, 或在網路上討論著. 許多人都對於我的接任抱著很高的期許, 他們相信我能為政府為台灣經濟帶來正面的影響! 姑且不論他們是不是對我期望過高, 我接下了這份委任. 我也約略地被過來人們提醒別對於跟政府合作有太多的期待, 老實說在接任以來的短短三週裡我也略有體認. 然而, 我對自己有小小的期許, 若說有十個由智庫提出來的提議方案會被政府的官僚作風與低效率給糟蹋掉了, 我希望自己能至少讓其中一項被真正有效地正面落實. 雖然這樣低的”打擊率”極不符合美國職棒大聯盟的標準, 但請相信我, 這已經能為現今的就業市場做大幅的提升! 無論我在這個工作崗位上一年或者三年, 我都一定不會在此退休. 而在我離開之前, 或在我被這工作所享有的極大福利與權利寵壞之前, 就像我在本週跟兩百多位同事開會時所說, 也想拿來與你們分享的, 是: 我只希望能對些許事情有正面影響力, 也希望能因這工作交到更多朋友. 尤有甚者, 是期望你們持續地為我祈禱與小撇步分享並支持我在這裡所接受的任務. 總而言之, 祈求上帝保佑看顧我們這個國家! 台灣真的需要一些奇蹟來幫助我們重拾過去那種富強康樂的景象. -- Steve Faith, Hope, Love

MY REGRET In 1978, the United States of America broke off diplomatic relations with Taiwan.It caused many people to leave Taiwan and go to America or other countries for the reason of safety. In 1980, my husband and I decided to send our three kids to America to continue their education. But I had to give up my teaching job in Taiwan to take care of my sons in America, only just 5 years before applying retirement. Although my children all graduated at the top of ten famous universities in America, and have had much success in their jobs, at the same time,I enjoy my old age life of ease,I regret the above decision very much.Because it made me a great loss of enjoying life-time 18% interest on pension.To tell the truth,I still consider my moving to the Unites States in 1980 as the most regrettable decision of my life.If time could flow back as water did,I would have never done it again!
親愛的爸媽, 謝謝您們這兩週對Kevin的照顧,相信他未來在他的人生當中,這一個短暫的相處會有許多回憶和啓發。 有一件事之前Kevin有轉告我,但是我忘了提起,就是爸說當初我選擇去柏克萊大學而不去加州理工學院,是因爲學費的原因,以及之後成為基督徒是因為公立學校較辛苦的原因。我當下聽了覺得非常訝異,不知道這樣的誤解已經在爸心中多年了。其實,當初選擇學校時,就已經知道爸媽會全力支持,所以在參觀加州理工學院之後,就覺得校園內感受到學術氣氛濃厚,幾乎見不到人在小小的校園中閒聊,因此後來柏克萊後補進去後,連到校園參訪都沒有就決定要去一個比較多元化的學校。之後在選研究所時,對加州理工學院又有多一些了解,並在所有選擇中,又是排名最高,又有助教獎學金,於是又選了加州理工學院,只不過第一年就交上兩位只來唸碩士的朋友,後來博士不唸就決定到業界去了。只能夠說是人生有時決定還是會走到意想不到的路徑,甚至走回之前不想走的路。 至於成為基督徒之事,是因為高中就只參加過兩次團契,到了大一跟了幾位教友固定每週參加團契和主日,雖然大一是我四年唸書最花時間及成績最好的時候,可是我大一暑假決定成為基督徒,因為觀察及體驗了一整年,這樣的信仰及各種以後的歷練,反而比我在專業上的學習,更能幫助我在人生上的處事和歷練。 在此還是謝謝爸媽從小對我的栽培,包含送我們到美國唸書兩地相隔的辛勞、在金錢上不用煩惱、在信仰上尊重我的決定,若是我們對我們小孩的教育和照顧有達到任何百分比,一切都是您們先以身作則的原因。 愛您們! 孟宗

Your effort is well rewarded despite we wish you have spent less time in playing games. But your potential and achievement are well above where I was at your age. Only difference was that I worked a bit harder due to having to learn English as a second language when arriving at US to start 9th grade in second semester. I basically did not start on core courses until 10th grade first semester. Thanks God I was able to be admitted to Caltech and wait listed in to Berkeley which I accepted later. For your next year, either AP computer engineering or AP Physics should be fine by your choice. Do not be afraid take take on a higher challenge if it means tougher grade. Your potential is limited if you do not give it a try with your best. But most importantly give it all out while enjoying the learning process regardless of outcome. Congrats again! Stephen

Stephen, There were two benefactors for our family to get permanent resident qualification of the U.S. So far they have been still lived in L.A. They have come back to Kaohsiung to visit Dad & Mom for many times. Aunti got good grades in primary school, but she has been forced to interrupted her advanced education after finishing primary education for undertaking responsibility of housework due to poverty in the family and Grandfather's ideology for valuing males and belittle females. As eldest son in the family, I regretted very much that I couldn't help Aunti pursuing advanced education. Indeed, we are getting older by the day,I should be going to L.A to visit Aunti and the two benefactors, but I have promised that Mom & I will participate in wedding ceremony of the two benefactors' son/daughter in L. A.if our health are OK. Then we could visit Aunti conveniently. So, Mom & I have decided not to go to L.A this year. Dad 2018/7/20
